Again, spot on.

I want to believe. I do. Unfortunately, and it hurts to say this, I just can’t right now. Jay Heaps is going to come out Wednesday morning and say all the right things. The problem is he isn’t going to be able to deliver on any of them, and only around 200-300 people in the entire region will be listening/watching anyway.

Heaps->Burns->Bilello? Lemme guess how this’ll work: “I need new players”->”Sorry, this is the best we can do”->”Yup, best we can do”.

It’s not Jay’s fault. He’s been given a damn near impossible task- to make this team relevant in a MLS 2.0 world (with teams rapidly progressing to 2.5) with a 1.0 budget/ownership attitude.

Thanks Dan… As you know, references to Terry Francona are not particularly illustrative to me, but I think I get your point.

As for Nicol being a name… that’s a bit of my point, Nicol is respected and still cannot (or has not) gotten top-names to Gillette. I can only imagine it would be harder for someone like Steve Ralston.

Interesting thought(s) about Ralston as the next head coach of the Revs. Would he be the best choice? Probably not, but unfortunately I do not know who else would be available or want to come here. Would he be the worst? Certainly not.

I think his knowledge, experience (in the league) are second to none. The one point you made that would concern me would be his personality. I see him as a players coach (i.e. Terry Francona) and not sure if he could be the tough guy. That doesn’t make or break a coach, and I don’t think would be a huge issue.

Your comments about International Experience, or having a “name”, amused me. I agree that Ralston does not fall into that category. That said, I would argue that Steve Nicol is a name in International Soccer. The fact that he couldn’t bring in anyone…good… shows that may not matter.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate the comment. I too like Coach Nicol, but sense that something has to change.

It is hard to imagine that with all the potential fixes around the Revs I’ve focused on him, but at the end of the day it’s hard to change an entire roster, and much easier to change a coach. We’ll see if the better style of play that Mr. Klinsmann has seemingly started to bring to the National Team can continue (and produce actual victories), but it is an example that change is possible without starting over with all new players.

SN has lost the dressing room. The players trashed the locker room at half time last Sunday. Unfortunately the reporters of this team have allowed shallow explanations to rule their reports. Several player agents in Boston are advising clients not to sign with team. M Burns believes the walk out of Gilette by the Fort is of little import. The Team decide to cut season ticket holders out of receiving Man U tickets from their package despite the fact that every other MLS team playing Man U did the opposite. The players are merely responding to the chaotic conditions and SN whose coaching philosophy was neolithic in the best of times has lost the ability to recognize talent appropriate for the modern mls. Everything is Ducky!
